How a Free-Shipping Progress Bar Increases Average Order Value

· Orkvix Team

Shoppers love free shipping. A free-shipping progress bar turns that into a simple goal: “You’re ₹300 away from free shipping.”

Why it works

  • Clear goal: people like finishing what they start.
  • Instant feedback: the bar fills up as items are added.
  • No discount needed: you reward a bigger cart instead of cutting prices.

Choosing your threshold

A good starting point is to set the free-shipping threshold 15–30% above your current average order value. Too low and you lose shipping margin; too high and shoppers give up.

Where to show it

  1. In the side cart (cart drawer), right after something is added
  2. On the full cart page
  3. Optionally as a slim banner at the top of the store

Pair it with product suggestions

When a shopper is close to the goal, show one or two low-priced items that would get them over the line. This turns the progress bar into an easy cross-sell.

Measure the impact

Compare average order value and conversion rate for a few weeks before and after launch. If conversion drops, lower the threshold slightly.

A progress bar is one of the quickest wins for any Shopify store: easy to set up and easy to understand.
